How to make your own oil for a relaxing massage
Making yourself a massage oil is very simple. Few ingredients are needed and no experience is required. We explain how to prepare a recipe of proven effectiveness.
How to make your own oil for a relaxing massage

To make your own massage oil you need what is called a “base oil”, which is the main ingredient. The most frequently used is sweet almond oil. But it can also be coconut, olive, sesame, jojoba or grape seed oil. These oils are considered neutral. They do not have an overly intense aroma.

You can do a massage only with the base oil, but if you add essential oils, you will take advantage of the properties of its active principles. Therefore, we are interested in choosing essential oils with relaxing qualities. If you are pregnant, it may be a good idea to massage only the base oil.

CHOOSE QUALITY OILS FOR YOUR RELAXATION MIX

Keep in mind that both the base oil and the essential oils must be of high quality, as they are absorbed by the skin. They must be one hundred percent pure, better if they are organically produced and, if the opportunity arises, fair trade. This way you make sure that the cultivation of the plants has not harmed the environment and that the workers have not suffered bad working conditions.

If you want the highest quality, choose chemotyped oils. These types of oils are currently used by most aromatherapists. Its characteristic is that the manufacturer guarantees a standardized content of active ingredients.

You decide how much massage oil you want to make. If you go for small amounts then you can try new mixes more often.

Once the mixture is done, it is convenient to do a tolerance test on a small area of skin and thus you will know if the ingredients are suitable for you. You can do this test on the wrist or the neck, especially sensitive areas. If the skin becomes irritated, it is probably an allergic reaction. In that case it is better that you try other oils.

Essential oils should never be applied to the skin without diluting them. The general rule of thumb is that 10-20 drops of essential oils are added for every 100 ml of base oil.
