The Beginning of My Fitness Journey

When I turned 40, I decided to prioritize my health and fitness. I was determined to get in the best shape of my life, so I jumped on every fitness fad that promised quick results. From juice cleanses to extreme workout programs, I tried them all.

1. Juice Cleanses

One of the first fitness fads I tried was juice cleanses. I was convinced that detoxing my body with a week-long juice cleanse would jumpstart my weight loss journey. However, I soon realized that depriving my body of solid food for days on end was not sustainable or healthy.

2. Extreme Workout Programs

I also fell for the allure of extreme workout programs that promised to sculpt my body in record time. From HIIT to CrossFit, I pushed my body to its limits in pursuit of the perfect physique. But as I got older, I realized that these intense workouts were taking a toll on my joints and overall well-being.

3. Fad Diets

At one point, I tried every fad diet that came my way – from keto to paleo to intermittent fasting. While some of these diets helped me shed pounds initially, I soon found that they were not sustainable in the long run. I was tired of constantly restricting myself and feeling guilty every time I indulged in a treat.

4. Waist Trainers

I’ll admit it – I fell for the waist trainer craze. I thought that cinching my waist with a tight corset would give me the hourglass figure I’ve always wanted. But the reality was far from glamorous – I struggled to breathe, and my posture suffered as a result. I eventually ditched the waist trainer in favor of more comfortable and effective workout gear.

5. Detox Teas

Detox teas were another fitness fad that I experimented with in the hopes of slimming down. I drank cup after cup of detox tea, believing that it would cleanse my body of toxins and help me lose weight. However, I soon realized that these teas were nothing more than a temporary fix and did not address the root cause of my weight issues.

6. Fitness Apps

I relied heavily on fitness apps to track my workouts and calorie intake. While these apps were initially helpful in keeping me accountable, I soon became obsessed with hitting arbitrary fitness goals and tracking every morsel of food I ate. I realized that this obsessive behavior was unsustainable and was negatively impacting my mental health.

7. Extreme Supplements

Desperate to speed up my weight loss journey, I turned to extreme supplements that promised to burn fat and boost my metabolism. From fat burners to appetite suppressants, I tried them all. However, I soon discovered that these supplements were not only ineffective but also potentially harmful to my health.

Why I Finally Ditched Them at 60

As I entered my 60s, I realized that my obsession with fitness fads was not serving me well. I was tired of constantly chasing after quick fixes and unsustainable results. I wanted to focus on my overall health and well-being, rather than just my outward appearance.

I started listening to my body and prioritizing activities that brought me joy and fulfillment. I embraced a more balanced approach to fitness, incorporating a mix of strength training, yoga, and cardio into my routine. I also adopted a more mindful approach to eating, focusing on nourishing my body with whole, unprocessed foods.

While I may not have the same body I did in my 40s, I am healthier and happier than ever before. I have learned to embrace my age and appreciate all that my body can do. I have finally ditched the fitness fads that once consumed me and am now focused on living a balanced and sustainable lifestyle.
